Helpful truths on Old iron

To start off, I picked this up from amazon about two years ago (from the date of this review).

I had one pot with the handle unattached arrive in ok packing. I called the company (not amazon) and confirmed my purchase and a replacement was mailed that day. They were quite apologetic and quick to respond. Thumbs up to the company. The second replacement pot was flawless.

Bottom line: It works. It’s not the most pretty, the red paint is industrially applied. It looks good enough though, not a showpiece but functional and decent enough. The black enamel inside makes this pot easy to clean. I put a cloth or paper towel on a large spoon or chopstick to get in the hard to reach spots and done. Outside cleans just as easily and does not stain.

No paint chipping, no rust, no wear, no problems after two years. The only heads up is this is not lightweight. If you have wrist, shoulder, or even back difficulties you may want to reconsider a purchase.

How can you revive an old rusted cast iron pan?
I found some old cast iron pans that was Old iron in the storage for years, i don’t want to throw it away. They are rusted and it seem like something had dried in it and it’s caked in, how can i revive it and “season” the pan.

This was a good buy for us. We live in Wisconsin and have a woodburning stove in our house. The kettle makes a noticeable difference and makes the air less dry. It also looks nice because it matches our black stove.

I guess the inside is not treated because it rusts pretty badly. The outside, however, stays nice and black. Also, it is pretty heavy to move so we have been taking a cup of water TO the stove to fill the kettle, instead of bringing the kettle to the sink.

I received this as a gift. I had put it on my wish list and was thrilled to have received it. I knew it would be heavy and bulky and was ok with that. But, rust is a really problem. I won’t drink water out of it as a result. Needless to say, I am disappointed. I plan to use it though as a humidifier with the dry air caused by our gas heat.

A good kettle for adding humidity to the air on top of a woodstove. Do not buy this for drinking (tea, etc…) it was not made for that; it develops an interior rust crust after about a week. I would buy this again for my woodstove.

I was trying to purchase pie iron that resembled mine which is adored by my grandsons. Mine has short handles for use on gas range to make cheese sandwiches which my grandsons call “UFOs” because of the curves in the shape. They were very disappointed that the shape of the Rome one I purchased for them was like a hamburger bun while their mother said the long handles made it risky for falling off the stove and burning their hands. I believe this iron is best suited for campfires where long handles are a safety measure. I returned the two irons I purchased.

The irons are nice but they were just thrown in the box and brown paper was wadded up and thrown in also. In shipping one of the clips that hold the iron handles together disappeared. Also the irons were a little beaten up with shipping but they work find.

This item adds a great deal of fun to any camping trip. We have made both cherry and apple pie but may try making a pizza next time. It is fun for both children and adults.
