Poets, A New Orleans poem, Comments?
HOME WHERE MY FATHER DIEDA home on the second floorWrought iron porch clear across the frontSounds of jazz from the bar belowWhere they draw you up a beerAnd serve it with white wine. There’s no whining hereI reached behind the condenser fridgeDrew out a large shiny black bugTo show my mommy the prettyBright red hourglass on its tummyShe failed to be impressed. In the yard behind, thick and overgrownThe heavy leaves of a banana treeEngulfed my brother and meIn the bathroom sink we proudlyKept a baby cayman alligatorSome girls had given Wrought Iron floor LampFlame Top us in the parkMother threw it out when it bit her.We could look down the narrow streetTo see the Cathedral at the endYellow in the noonday sunFrom which our father was buriedWhen at the last his race was runThe band played slow going outAnd fast coming back.I remember the heavy scentOf roses and lilies on that dayThe large Mississippi catfishThat was so hard to kill and cutAnd the sweet bananasFrying in the pan by our Creole cookAll things I never could store in a book.Another of our wild animals, they found it wandering across a path in the park. The momma alligator will usually gather the young in her mouth and carry them down to the bayou to release them safely. This must have been one she missed. They lay their eggs in piles of rotting vegetation that provide the heat to incubate the eggs.Although a major predator, baby alligators are prey to a wide variety of wildlife, from egrets and snakes, to bullfrogs and other alligators and fish.It was a nice pet for a four year old boy.We fed it minnows and bits of ground beef. If you stroke their tummy, they go to sleep.Full grown ones have been known to kill and eat young children.

sounds like your current pallet is pretty mellow- I’d suggest something that contrasts- You’ve had a lot of good suggestions- Hunter Green, Cranberry,.. If you want an accent that doesn’t shout, you could try a Navy Blue.Where your style sounds a little rustic, you’ll probably want to go with something simple- Get some solid (or gingham may work, too) fabric, and stitch your own (if you’re feeling super-crafty)… If you make your own, be sure to allow enough fabric for hems, and the cuff for the curtain rod, and gathering…Best of luck!

Very interesting and entertaining. (I write myself), but I’ve always enjoyed others work as well than my own (but people seem to be so interested in mine as well that I don’t see much reason to why it is so entertaining). Now, for me to understand more clearly, you’re going to need to give me some background information. (Unless it’s a mystery). Like: Where is the story set in, what’s happening, or the characters. And also, (this would help me a lot) what time era is this placed in? (I often write in different eras so when I usually read someone else’s work I get confused because I’m setting my mind to one place in time and then when the writer tells me it was in a differentt era than what I was thinking I feel like a fool for not realizing it sooner). But all in all I enjoyed the beginning. Tell hope everything else works out for this story.P.S. I love how you give wonderful description, by the way.

Window screening? There is also shade cloth sold in garden and hardware stores. It comes in limited colors: black and sometimes green or brown. Check with your landlord. You might have restrictions on attaching anything to the railing. You may need to make a screen that you can clip to the railing when you are tanning and unclip when not needed.

About wood corbels and corbels carved in mission or craftsman style mirrors; wall art; wall decorations; decorative corbels can add a new level of class . Wall decor ideas suitable for those with cottage style or rustic homes. … It goes without saying that we like the friendly presence of much wood .

If you post images of the actual space and must keep items on Flickr.com we can go over it with you in a more defined way then blanket suggestions. Also tell us what period and style your looking to achieve. A cool red would be fine on the blue washed bed. But I would use it sparingly and go with an embroidered or appliqued cream bed cover http://www.alenska.com/store/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image//w/h/white-bed-linen_1.jpg or a chenille spread and the red for accent pillows a throw and perhaps an easy chair if the room permits. An antique vanity would be wonderful. A smooth saffron yellow orange (think of the color of roasted potatoes) http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5050/images/5050_MEDIUM.jpg would work nice with the colors you mentioned or a rich gold. http://victorialarsen.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83454388069e20120a59004fd970c-320wiI would use shutters on the windows and paint all the trim in black if it is not wood. From the sounds of it a country traditional flavor would look great. http://www.annesage.com/.a/6a00e55225716d88330120a65318fd970b-pi

That is definitley not too many colors for a house. In the house we just sold we had a different color in every room and we had a very rustic looking homw and I got so many compliments. Also I love the colors you have selected. Hunter green is big this year. My only suggestion is that if you do darker colors in all the ajoining rooms make atleat one wall a focal wall and make it a lighter softer color because darker colors make your space look smaller than they are. Good luck.

That sounds very reasonable to me; but, hey, I’m used to French real estate prices…. : )You might want to ask this question in the LA section.

Actually, not bad. Mostly a few minor grammatical/usage errors here. First of all, I think you want to say “rapping on their doors,” instead of “rasping.”Also, your sentence “I say being for if I was to say life I would be misspeaking” is a bit awkward and needs a second look. And here. “The bones of my foot hitting the burnished wooden floor, tinkling as if made of hallow glass against the exposed wood.” That’s a fragment because it doesn’t really have a proper verb; you’d have to say “hit” and “tinkled.”But overall, nice job. Just keep it exciting. Draw your readers in. Make them sit on the edge of their seats.
