wrought-iron-wall-sconces Meaningful guidepost on Cast iron

I was sauteing some onions and all of a sudden I heard a loud bang. I ssw glass like chips all over my stove and floor. I was totally freaked out. I thought something exploded. It took me a while to figure out what it was because the bottom of the pot was the last place I looked. A large outer part of the pot shot out. I have always hand washed this pot and have never placed it in a dish washer. Don’t waste your money on this pot. I have this pot for less than less than three months and have used it less than ten times. I have contacted the seller. I’m hopeful for a refund.

what is the cast iron pot called that has a hole in the lid and you put hot coals Cast iron on it?
My daughter said there is a vintage cast iron pot that has a hole in the lid and you stir it through the hole….what is that called?

If rust forms on the skillet, it will be toxic, and it will give one brain damage. That is a fact. Now we know that Lodge Logic has its employees post comments and acting as customers saying that rust is good for you and so forth. This is the same technique Toyota uses to have its people write on automotive blogs saying that Toyota cars are safe and no one has ever died in one due to defects. There have been serious cases of illness from using these pans.

Very good skillet. Very heavy heats evenly. Easy to clean. Food tastes better.
Just rinse it out and dry it on the stove. Turn on the heat for a minute and then let it cool.
Spray it with pam or rub it with a little cooking oil. Very best way to cook.
Same as large 15 but not as heavy made to cook lees food in it obviously.

A few years back, I tentatively tried a cast iron kettle. I was hesitant because I found the reviews to be so varied. But after trying it, I decided I love cast iron! My husband gave me this skillet as a birthday gift, and I love it as much as my kettle. I’ve found the best way to take care of cast iron is to put it in the oven for about 5 minutes after washing, to ensure that all moisture is gone and it won’t rust. Then, after completely cooling, put a little vegetable oil on a rag and wipe the skillet with it. Even if it says, “pre-seasoned,” I find that it’s a good idea to rub it with oil the first several times you use it.

I like cast iron cookware, and i’m a fan of Lodge’s pre-seasoned line. But a pan doesn’t just win because it’s cast iron.

This skillet is huge. Yes, it’s 15″ across the top, contrary to the description. Yes, it’s “only” 12.25″ across the interior of the bottom. But that doesn’t stop it from being huge.

That said, huge isn’t bad. Huge is what i was going for, in fact. The problem is that, on conventional stovetops, it’s too big for just one burner. If you use one burner, then the burner behind it is useless. It’s also too thin to heat evenly with just one burner. I typically set it to span two burners when i’m using it, at the expense of additional gas and the loss of valuable parallel cooking potential (i.e., being able to cook more dishes simultaneously).

More useful than wasting two burners on this oversized unit would be to buy a 12″ and a 10″, and use both burners individually. On the other hand, if you have a gargantuan stove top and a large heat spreader, you may feel differently.

I have left a separate review for the poor packaging and the condition the pan was received in. I am very disappointed with the dimensions of this pan. I was expecting a 15″ cooking surface. The cooking surface only measures 12 inches. If you measure across the outer lip it only measures approximately 14 1/2. This disappointment is partially due to the fact that size is apparently derived from measuring across the lips of the pan and not the cooking surface. I only learned this after doing research after receiving the pan. This pan does not measure 15 inches across though, unless you are rounding up. The pan itself, other than damage from shipping, looks handsome. If it were the size I was expecting I would be thrilled with my purchase. Unfortunately I do need that extra cooking surface, so I may need to order a larger one. I have been cooking with cast iron for a while and would suggest that everyone who enjoys cooking give cast iron a try. I have given this product a 3 star because I feel that they could have better described the cooking surface. I have not cooked with it yet but I expect that I will have good results.

This skillet is what you expect from Lodge, I love it! It’s huge, I fried 5 pounds of potatoes to perfection using my camper stove! The price is amazing, it’s $70 on the Lodge web-site. A wonderful addition to my cast iron collection!

Year’s ago, I had a hibachi when my wife and I were first married . We loved the way it cooked and its size was perfect for two newlyweds.
Our children are grown now and we are back to cooking for two. I have been looking for just the right grill and saw this one. It has surpassed my expectations. Just the right size. We carry it with us out in the boat for cooking on a beach. The food taste just as good as I remember from years past.

Unit arrived with incorrectly drilled holes for vent on one side. I had to redrill only to find that there is insufficient air space between coal grate and base of grill to provide enough updraft to ignite coals. Would not buy another.

All the other neg. comments are true. I had to work on this grill to make it work me. I wish I had read ALL the other reviewers first. The legs are uneven. You have to scrub the black paint of the grills. The grills don’t fit evenly and even cracked. I was able to grill but this grill won’t last. I wish I had sent it back and saved up for a better made real cast iron grill.

Bought this bor my daughter who lives in an apartment. Easy to store, (she keeps it on top of her fridge), easy to use. Small and compact. If you want to spend a little more and get something a little bigger and have it fold up too then do a search on “Son Of Hibachi”.

This pan is 6.5″ diameter at the top, not the bottom. It will hold a sandwich, but not more. My previous experience with pan measurements held that the measurement was taken at the base of the pan . . but not this one. I have not tried it yet, but it certainly is CUTE. I hope I like it as much as it is CUTE. I will report back later.

This skillet is great. The size is perfect for eggs or a sandwich. My one gripe, and the reason I give it 4 stars, is that Lodge doesn’t offer a lid for this size skillet like they do with the rest of their line.

I love this pan except the first time I used it the food stuck to the pan. Also the cooking surface is kind of rough. Maybe that is why food sticks. I thought i usewd enough oil where the food would not stick
